This week we talk to Alana Grelyak and Crepes, otherwise known as the ‘Cat in the Fridge’ from the YouTube movie “Catalogue”. Alana also blogs about Crepes and her entertaining antics and profiles special needs adoption rescues to help special needs kitties get adopted.
How old is Crepes and where was she adopted from?
Crepes: My name is Crepes. I’ll be 36 months old in June and I was adopted from Tree House Humane. MomFOD and DadFOD fostered me, but they failed to return me. I believe it was the best decision they’ve ever made.
How long have you had Crepes? What’s her background?
Alana: We’ve had Crepes since November, 2011.
Crepes: I’m from the ‘hood! You see, I came out of an inbred colony that was lacking space and food in a factory out in Melrose Park, IL. But I left there when I was three or so months old. I’ve never seen my colony or Aunt Mom or Uncle Dad again.
What made you fall in love with Crepes and adopt her?
Crepes: My charm.
Alana: This one’s for me, Crepes. Don’t listen, or it’ll go to your head. When we fostered Crepes, she was a sickly little thing, with terrible herpes, a bad URI, and she was missing a foot. She was so tiny and sweet and it just broke our hearts to have to return her, knowing that with her needs she was less likely to be adopted. I loved carrying her around in my fuzzy robe and sleeping with her tucked into my arm and we just didn’t want to let her go.
Crepes: FYI, my herpes has cleared up and my leg grew back.
Alana: Her herpes is better. She’s lying about her leg.
What’s her favourite treat or food?
Alana: Crepes doesn’t seem to be terribly food motivated.
Crepes: I just like to stick my feet into MomFOD’s bowl. Incidentally, she’s “MomFOD” because she’s the “god of food.” And she can smite me down if she wants, but I’m still going to put my paws into her bowl.
What’s your favourite activity together?
Alana: Blogging! I write and Crepes naps on the backs of my hands in my lap. She steals free massages from my typing fingers and periodically gives me her input on the posts. Sometimes she plays the role of Detective.
What makes Crepes extra special?
Alana: She is the snuggliest little kitty! I can pick her up, carry her around, tuck her in my coat, and she loves all of it!
Crepes: I have an IQ of 198.
Animals teach us a lot. What can we learn from Crepes?
Crepes: I teach Italian for extra cash. You can reach me via my blog if you’d like to learn some.
Alana: I think Crepes’ spirit is the best thing about her. WE notice that she’s missing a foot, but SHE doesn’t! She climbs, jumps, runs, and does everything you’d expect of a completely normal cat. It’s really inspiring. (She does not teach Italian…she’s only intermediate level.)
