19 year old, up-and-coming pet photographer Jessica Trinh has launched a new cat photography collection in conjunction with Purina Pro Plan’s #MyGreatCat campaign to inspire owners to recognise and share the greatness in their own cats.
Jessica specialises in artistic dog photography, so to help her discover the greatness in cats, she entered the homes of 10 cat owners to uncover the characteristics that make cats uniquely great and chronicle their personal stories through photography.
“I wanted to explore the emotion of these cats and reveal the relationship between them and their owners,” said Jessica. “Having always been a ‘dog person’, I was quite surprised by what I found. The playfulness, the authority they conveyed – and the love they clearly communicated. Each cat had its own story to tell, and I look forward to discovering more in my future work.”
Jessica’s Cat Photography Tips
To capture your cat’s greatness through the camera lens, Jessica offers the following advice:
- Follow the cat. Photograph your cat in the environment she prefers. It’s easier on you and produces a more natural picture.
- Consider the light. Cats have amazing, glistening eyes. Make sure the lighting is right for the photo to make their eyes come alive in the shot.
- Find the motivation. Your cat may need a little motivation to stay put long enough to pose. Leverage toys and favourite foods to maintain your cat’s attention.
- Experiment with different angles. The great thing about cats is that they usually love going to really high places, so you can photograph from underneath them for an unexpected shot.
