Tiffanie Cat Breed Profile

October 9, 2015 By Pawesome Cats

A medium sized cat with a flowing plume of a tail the Tiffanie’s are a hybridization between the Burmese and the Chinchilla. Retaining the body type of the Burmese (solid and muscular) they present the facial markings of the Persian Chinchillas with eyes that are oval and set at an angle, and may be any colour from yellow through to apple green.

Learn all about the Tiffanie cat breed, including their personality, caring for your Tiffanie cat, and some interesting facts | Tiffanie Cat Breed Profile

They are typically referred to as being a long hair cat but have no undercoat (or very little). As a result you do net get the draping effect seen in many other long-haired breeds. Owners will enjoy petting their Tiffanies as the hair is very soft and silky.

The head is a broad wedge with high set cheekbones, with ears that are widely spaced, medium sized, and have long fur growing out from the inside.

Personality

The Tiffanie is not a cat who enjoys long periods of solitude. They much prefer company and enjoy lots of interaction with their owners and family. They are an affectionate breed who are outgoing and gentle and so make excellent pets for a variety of families – even ones where there is a pet already present.

While they do enjoy spending time with you they are by no means an overly demanding cat. They have also been known to enjoy the odd game of fetch as well.

Did You Know?

Originally the breed occurred because of a random mating between a Chinchilla Persian male and Burmese female. The first generation were born with short hair but the subsequent generation revealed the recessive gene for the long hair and the sepia tone.

Caring for Your Tiffanie Cat

As there is little to no undercoat the Tiffanie will only require grooming about once a week.

Diet does need to be carefully monitored for the same reason as other long haired breeds; weight gain and pot bellies can often go unnoticed due to the long hair.

New breed for us! As you know, we’re a bit partial to the muscular Burmese body type (Tonks!). Lovely kitty!

Beautiful cat, and much lower grooming maintenance than Persian cats.

Those are gorgeous kitties! I often wonder what our Pandora cat is. She has fur a lot like you described, it’s almost like bunny fur and SO soft. It’s about medium in length and she doesn’t really shed much, either.
