Pets give us so much and ask so little in return. Besides the unconditional love they show us every day, there are many documented health benefits to owning a cat or dog. Pets offer us companionship, can help reduce stress levels and lower blood pressure, and lift our mood when we’re feeling a bit blue.
To celebrate Love Your Pet Day this weekend, I’ve asked some of my pet blogging friends to share what they love about their pets or how they show their pets how much they love them.
But first, here’s what I love about the Pawesome Cats family:
Charlie has the biggest heart around, he’s loving, affectionate and the best big brother ever, especially to our timid redhead. Amber’s trademark squeak of a meow (listen above) is more precious than I can find the words for. Ava is naturally intuitive, she’s the one who watches over us humans whenever we’re unwell and need extra special care. Max is a little crazy, a little mischievous and whole lot of fun. He also has rabbit-soft fur that you just want to bury your face in.
What do you love about your pet?
How do you show your pet how much you love them?
How do I show my pet I love him? By doing everything I can to take care of him both physically and emotionally. That means species appropriate wet food instead of dry food, and time spent in feline enrichment (translation: wand toy play!). Because, despite what many people think, cats aren’t loners and they do crave companionship.

I love the humor my pets provide to keep me happy. The antics, the playing and the mischief they get into just makes my day. They are just a bunch of little comedians!

A few of the ways I show my cats how much I love them is by playing with them, giving them treats, always petting them when I walk by, letting ALL of them sleep in bed with me at night, giving them proper veterinary care, and feeding them a high quality diet.

How do I show my pets I love them? I make sure our home is comfortable, safe, and engaging for dogs and cats. We have squeaky balls and crinkle balls, plush toys and catnip mice, Frisbees and fishing wands. There are hidey spots, climby spots, soft spots and sunny spots — and a window seat for everyone to watch birds.

My seven cats are my pride and joy and the reason I look forward to getting up each and every day. They teach me, they inspire me, they humble me, they entertain me, but most of all, they provide me with unconditional love and companionship – what more could anyone want?
Deborah Barnes from Zee and Zoey’s Cat Chronicles
One thing that I love about Cinco and Manna is that they are in love with life. They wake up every morning ready for another “adventure.”
Robin Mudge from Playful Kitty
If I had to choose one thing I love about my dog, it would be Edison’s deafness. Because of it, I have learned a whole new way of communicating, I am more in tune with canine and human body language and by depending on nonverbal communication, a deep and profound intimacy has developed between us.
Bernard Lima-Chavez from Dog and His Boy
We love Gracie and Zoe because they show us every single day how much THEY love US. They are an endless source of comfort, joy and laughter for Tracey and me. We can’t imagine our lives without our little housepanthers. We rescued them, but they rescued us, too!
Kevin Hattori from Animal Shelter Volunteer Life
What I love about my cat, Cody, is his trusting, loving, cuddly, fun and fearless disposition. He is a ‘people’ cat and greets whomever enters our home. Dakota, my dog is a ‘sensitive’ boy, and as sweet as his doe-like eyes convey. He understands language better than most people!
Caren Gittleman from Cat Chat with Caren and Cody & Dakota’s Den
Having a cat who trusts no one but you is a big responsibility, but it’s also a special kind of shared love. Ashton’s meows demanding I drop everything to pet her are even more endearing because she doesn’t share them with anyone else, and her bedtime cuddles are precious because they’re just between us.

I love my pets because even when I’m at my worst, they still love me unconditionally. My cats and dogs have forgiven, loved and stood by my side no matter what. I am eternally grateful for their love!

I show my pets how much I love them by sleeping on the edge of a queen sized bed so they can stretch out and be comfortable. Seriously, Lola weighs 8 pounds and takes up the whole bed!
Dawn White from Lola the Rescued Cat
Carmine and Milita show me unconditional love everyday. I love that they inspire me to be a better, more loving and caring person everyday.

I love my dog every single day by spending time with him doing engaging and interactive things that stimulate his mind and body. I even had my trademark mantra tattooed on my skin, My Heart Beats Dog. It really does.
