With Valentine’s Day only a few days away, I’m sure you’ve already given some thought to that special partner in your life, and how you’re going to treat them on this day of love. That’s right, I’m talking about your cat! Whether you’re in a relationship or single, planning a Valentine’s Day date with your precious cat should be number one on your list of priorities – and here’s how to do it.
1. Skip the Flowers
While a beautiful bunch of flowers is a Valentine’s gift that’s appreciated by us humans, it’s not really the best present for your cat. He’ll probably want a little nibble, but with the number of plants and flowers that are poisonous to cats, it’s probably best that you skip this romantic tradition. Instead, how about a bouquet of cat grass or better still a cat grass plant to put in the windowsill.
2. A Romantic Stroll
Start the date off with a romantic stroll around the garden, taking in the sights and sounds around you. This step is much easier if you’ve trained your cat to walk on a leash, otherwise you might find he runs off and abandons you when he spots a leaf dancing in the breeze!
3. The Food of Love
Valentine’s Day is the one time of year you can throw caution to the wind and really splurge on some luxury food. You and your cat can worry about your waistlines tomorrow! Why not go for a taste of delectable smoked salmon, some fresh chicken or some tasty tuna? Or, bake your cat some special homemade kitty tuna treats. You know what they say; the way to a cat’s heart is through his stomach.
4. A Valentine’s Gift
Buying a Valentine’s gift for your cat is a win-win situation for you. Treat yourself to that special something you’ve had your eye on for a while – as long as it comes in a cardboard box. Your cat will be thrilled that you’ve got him just what he wanted – another cardboard box to sit and play in!
5. Pamper Session
Nothing says ‘I love you’ more than a delightful pamper session with your cat. Start off with a thorough grooming session from the top of his head to the tip of his tail. Once he’s suitably relaxed and a purring ball of bliss, you can move on to giving him a moggy massage. You never know, he might even return the favour – just make sure that his claws are nicely trimmed to avoid scratches!
6. Late Night Treats
As your date is drawing to a close, it’s time to crack open the good stuff. That might be wine or a nice glass of bubbly for you, and catnip for your cat. If he’s not one of those cats who go crazy for catnip, try feeding him some of his favourite treats from your hand – the perfect way to bond.
7. The Purrfect Ending
After a wonderful day spent showing your cat just how much you love him, you can curl up together on the sofa and chat about the day you’ve both had (you do have conversations with your cat, don’t you?), or simply cuddle and relax to the sound of his purr. Stroking your cat is not only pleasurable for him, it’s also beneficial for your health.

We second, third and fourth all these ideas! We’re waiting for our treat-and-catnip sessions. They could, uh, begin now, yanno….
Of course you were talking about the cat. Who else could you mean? This is a fantastic post, though I think numbers 1-3 should all be splurge on some special food.
All really great tips for the perfect Valentine’s Day with your kitty! We don’t get much sun in my apartment, but I want to try and grow Carmine and Lita some cat grass anyway 🙂
I love this post! There are a lot of things that you can do with your feline Valentine 🙂 The photo of the kitten being pampered is just gorgeous.
I really like the wheatgrass idea!
While my dog Valentino might like a cat TOO much (so I do not have one) I really do like these tips. I especially like the idea of a leash-trained cat taking a Valentine’s Day walk! So sweet!
What a spoiled kitty! That would be the perfect Valentine’s Day for any cat.
Unfortunately, we don’t have cats since hubby is extremely allergic, so we’ll “only” be pampering our doggies -) I did like reading all of your suggestions, however, especially the one of taking you kitty out for a leashed stroll. Way to go!
Great ideas, our favorite is late night snacks! Happy Valentine’s Day!
Sweet ideas to pamper a pet and Valentine’s Day!
Those ain’t gonna work for me! How cheap to suggest buying something for yourself and giving ME the box. That is unacceptable. I guess that might work for some. I’ll just take extra treats.
THose are all great ideas! My kitties are spoiled every day with lots of play time and love, they would probably like more snacks though 🙂
We want all these things for Valentines!
These are some wonderful ingredients for a very special Valentine’s Day! Man oh man are we excited now! The Mom and Dad better get planning!
